aboutTime Review – about time for a little something different
“The last scene gave me a lump in my throat. Nostalgia overtakes me. I think about what everything really means to me, and why I should be grateful for what I have. The ability to live everyday – authentically and with purpose and meaning; I could spend my time being regretful of my mistakes or with enthusiasm, recognizing all of the good things; the work I put in acknowledging what lead up to this very moment.”
“aboutTime” is a movie about time itself.
A different time, with an authentic twist.
To summarize, a young adult by the name of Tim is ready to leave home. Before so, his father let’s him in on a secret. A time traveling power that all the men in his family have had that goes generations back. Looking for a fresh start, Tim sets out to London from his home with what looks like hiking gear or I suppose is regular for those that are British and setting off into the world of wonder. Tim meets Harry, a loser and alcoholic who seems to despise every part of life itself. Yet Tim figures a way to love every part of life, and his thoughtfulness as well as his choices throughout his timeline have a significant influence on all things important to him.
After setting off from his family of 3, his mother, sister Kit otherwise known as ‘Kit Kat’, his father Uncle Desmond, Tim enters a new beginning. Real life. A fresh start. Starting off at what seems like an internship at a law office seeking a job as a lawyer, Tim meets a beautiful lady by the name of Mary who he falls madly in love with. Using his time traveling power, he ensures he gets her by going back and altering time itself using his powers. They have a daughter and get married. Everything seems to be doing okay until Tim soon learns the consequences of his power. Kit Kat gets into an accident and he tries to reverse it but ends up changing his present reality into something he doesn’t want. That being, Tim’s child is no longer his. Thus, Tim goes back and changes reality to realize he can’t save everyone from falling. Someone must take one for the team, someone has to lose in the end, and what they lose may be their life.
I loved this movie. However, this movie has an acquired taste to it. If you aren’t someone who spends their days working and hustling to make ends meet, you may not understand the complexities described in this breakthrough film. In other words, the perfectionist attitude of doing all things right in whatever one does; and the conviction of the wrong things one does. To simply put it, the strive or as some say the ‘curveballs’ that life throws at us and how we chose to respond. Sometimes it best we don’t understand the complex nature and we accept things plainly, we accept nature.
The last scene gave me a lump in my throat. Nostalgia overtakes me. I think about what everything really means to me, and why I should be grateful for what I have. The ability to live everyday – authentically and with purpose and meaning; I could spend my time being regretful of my mistakes or with enthusiasm, recognizing all of the good things; the work I put in acknowledging what lead up to this very moment. What really is important? Family and friends, and the memories we share with them. That is a bond that can not be broken. We are all united by something, that’s what I call God, and some may disagree. But sometimes power is given to us freely, the universe gives us a chance to do what’s right and also to do what’s wrong. It is dependent upon our judgement which decision we will make.
But why judge?
A righteous life is, so to speak, freedom from judgement. To be honest with your emotions and to let go of frustrations: banish your anxiety in everything you do and perhaps that dream of yours may come true. As said in “aboutTime” we ourselves are all traveling through time. Therefore, so be it. Always remember, we are traveling down our own path, yes, but we all belong in the same place.
Something Great – New Netflix RomCom
Welcome to my first Netflix movie review. Join me again next time for my review of aboutTime a movie of a time traveling genius who uses his talents to win over – and perhaps chase – a beautiful female.
Someone Great – A Netflix movie review by Jeremy Fortunato
Dumped by her long-term boyfriend, a music journalist recruits her two best friends for one last outrageous adventure in New York City before she moves to San Francisco.
Someone great is about 3 friends who unite to make something greater out of their busy, schedule-induced lives. The film employees a wonderful youthful bunch, who all play a significant role in the plot. Famous actor “Gina Rodriquez” best known as ‘Jane’ from The CW satirical romantic dramedy series Jane the Virgin, is a very playful beautiful young lady and seems to bring positivity wherever she goes. Living in NYC as a writer, Jenny, her character gets a new job opportunity but has to leave to San Francisco to do so. In efforts to fuel their friendship and community, her and her friends who already are full on stoners, as well as clubbers take what seems like a molly and go on a trip together. Throughout the movie Jenny has many flashbacks of her ex and her, which range from in bed pillow talking to their breakup to piggyback riding each other, no pun intended😈.
All in all it’s a good movie for the positive vibers that like to watch other people’s good trips and reminisce of their nostalgic filled trips. One thing I could say is it’s relatable and the actors seem real and relatable. If you’re a guy who wants to learn some modern day romance culture and want to tell your game up for the Summer this is a good film for you to invest some thought into.
However for the film critics that like lots of material over content, leave this for your kids, buddy.
